FAQ's
My college credits are over 10 years old. Will Old Dominion University accept those courses in transfer?
Yes. Old Dominion University has no age limitation on the transfer of previous credits. There are times, however, when you may choose to repeat a course. For example, if you took the first half of chemistry many years ago, you may want to repeat the course for review before taking the second half of chemistry.

A "C" grade or above must be earned in a course to receive transfer credit.
A "C -" grade or below will not transfer.

Yes! View www.odu.edu/streaming for information on taking courses by Video Stream .
Is it possible to attend full-time and graduate in one year?
Local RN to BSN students typically have completed all or most lower level course requirements.Because of varied course availability at community colleges, students at distant sites typically have not completed lower level requirements upon entering the BSN program.
Most RN to BSN students have considerable work and family responsibilities. To complete nursing courses in two calendar years, students need to take 4-9 credit hours per term. Most TELETECHNET students are also adding community college courses to this academic load. Therefore, part-time attendance at Old Dominion keeps most students sufficiently busy.
In some cases, RN to BSN students have been given permission to plan a one-year completion, attending Old Dominion full-time. Students should have completed all or most of their lower level courses. Students interested in this option should contact Ms. Phyllis Barham, Chief Academic Advisor, at pbarham@odu.edu.
May I start the BSN program in a spring semester?
No. RN to BSN students are accepted to begin the program in a fall semester only. In a spring semester, students planning for the program may take appropriate lower level courses at a community college. Specifically, a one credit computer course should be taken before entering the nursing program. Upper division general education requirements may also be taken before admission to the School of Nursing.
What grade is necessary in nursing courses at Old Dominion University?
For students to remain in good academic standing, a "C" grade or above is necessary in each nursing course. Please refer to the School of Nursing Student Handbook for more information on academic progression and continuance.

How do I obtain textbooks?
Local students may purchase textbooks at the Old Dominion University Bookstore on the main campus. TELETECHNET students may call MBS Direct at 800-325-3252 to order textbooks for the following semester. Students are cautioned to avoid purchasing textbooks from former students before information is available from MBS Direct. Textbook requirements and editions often change from one year to the next.
What happens if I withdraw from the university for a semester while in the BSN program?
Each nursing course in the BSN curriculum is offered once per year. Although they may take the missed courses when offered again, students should carefully consider a decision to withdraw and its implications for their progression. Please consult with an advisor; some courses have specific prerequisites and cannot be taken out of sequence.
