Micah Scott

Greetings!

Hi! I am Micah A. Scott. Most of you have probably met me by now or at least spoken with me on the phone. Now it is time to let you know a little about me. But, I would also like to know about you!

Past History

I have to admit, I always wanted to be a nurse! It's the truth, since I was in the 5th grade and the lady next door was a nurse and I wanted to be just like her. She knows to this day that she was the reason I chose my career. We have both become advanced practice nurses, she is a CRNA and I am a FNP.

My nursing education started at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. Let's just say I didn't do my best in my freshman year. So, I came back to Tidewater and attended Norfolk General School of Professional Nursing. It was a great start for me. I graduated from there in 1981. Immediately I started on my BSN at Old Dominion University. However, I took the long road to get this degree. Finally in December of 1990, I received my BSN. At that time I had been accepted at the Medical College of Virginia for the Masters Program in the Family Nurse Practitioner role. But, I delayed entering the Spring of '91 semester since I had been recalled to active duty as a Nurse Corps officer to a Surgical Ward at Portsmouth Naval Hospital during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. So I finally completed my Masters at MCV in December of '92. Two weeks after graduation and on New Year's Eve my daughter was born! So I became a mom and a nurse practitioner all at once!

During my career as a RN, I worked in CCU, ER, Employee Health, and Surgical wards. As a family nurse practitioner, I practiced in family medicine, taught part time in this program and most recently left a breast surgery practice. I am very happy to be in this current position!

Personal Tidbits!

Tidewater has been my home since my father received orders to the area in 1973. In fact, my siblings and parents still live in the area, that is a benefit of living here. I am married to a civil engineer that is also a Naval Reservist. I have two daughters, Claire 8 and Kara 4. Of course, I can't forget our faithful beagle/whippet mixed dog named Chelsea, she has been with us for 12 years. We have a very active and full filling household!

But Who are You???

Tell me about yourself...
