Dean's Welcome:

Welcome to the College of Health Sciences, a vibrant community of scholars and students dedicated to the future of health care and to improving public health. Our goal is to shape the new century by educating the next generation of health professionals and by developing cutting edge research.

The five schools of our College of Health Sciences offer a wide selection of excellent educational programs including undergraduate majors, masters programs, doctoral studies, and post-graduate training. If you are looking for trusted value in education and want to be an environmental health professional, nurse anesthetist or nurse practitioner , public health service researcher, medical technology specialist, dental hygienist, doctor of physical therapy or a leader of many other health professions - our College should be your first choice. Old Dominion University enrolls nearly 20,000 students and more over distance technology networks. Many ODU graduates have reached the top as astronauts, navy admirals, Olympic medal winners, or nationally respected citizens in influential professions and major companies.

Research scholars of our College pioneered programs to teach innovative health care technologies, wrote the top selling nursing pharmacology textbook published by Mosby, designed the ODU 11-12 Explorer, an instrument used in dental offices nationwide, and wrote scientific publications cited by hundreds of leading researchers internationally. At Old Dominion University, the Virginia Modeling, Analysis & Simulation Center studies virtual reality and other tools to improve human performance; the Social Science Research Center offers expertise to conduct surveys, focus groups, and data analyses; and the Digital Library Research Group builds novel knowledge sharing methods.

The sandy beaches of the ocean shore, popular basketball, rivers for the water sport enthusiasts, and great cultural life of the Hampton Roads area - a harbor of people and their aspirations - create the perfect, inclusive environment to play hard and learn with a smile. We are excited that our College will be housed in an impressive new building in the next academic year. I invite you to discover Old Dominion University, your portal to New Worlds.
