This annual event highlights research activities conducted by University faculty and students through poster and oral presentations. Each year a keynote speaker is featured which provides an evening of research and refreshments!

Welcome to The Dental Hygiene Research Center

Old Dominion University is a center of learning committed to the principle of free inquiry through research, scholarly endeavors and creative undertakings by faculty and students. The 188-acre main campus of the university is a state-assisted, doctoral research institution located in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dental Hygiene Research Center (DHRC) is a stand alone facility housed with the School of Dental Hygiene. Oral health services are provided to Hampton Roads citizens who possess a broad array of health and disease states. The community population is diverse in age, gender, ethnicity and socio-economic backgrounds.

The DHRC has established successful collaborations other academic institutions, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare facilities, industry, the community, and private practice.

The DHRC plays a key role in exposing both undergraduate and graduate students to research activities, which contributes to the student's understanding of the link between theory and practice. The Center provides designated clinical and laboratory space and provides for employment of students and professionals from the Hampton Roads area. The community at large benefits through participation in studies that evaluate behaviors, interventions, products and devices to combat oral disease and maintain health.

The faculty of the Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene is committed to the preparation of dental hygienists for leadership roles in today's healthcare system, research, education and industry. Toward this end, it offers innovative curricula leading to both baccalaureate and master's degrees in dental hygiene with emphasis on research. Opportunities for doctoral research also are available.
