Curriculum for BSDH Completion Program

A minimum of 120 semester credit hours are required for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene.  Thirty credit hours must be completed either online or in residency at Old Dominion University.  A post Certificate or Associate in Applied Science Degree in Dental Hygiene is a prerequisite to admission.

Requirements:

  1. Successful completion of the University General Education Requirements:

    LOWER DIVISION

    1. Skills
      1. English Composition I & II 6 hours
      2. Mathematics (Statistics)  3 hours
      3. Foreign Language  0-6 hours (exempt if graduated from HS prior to 12/85)
      4. Computer Skills  0-3 hours
    2. Perspectives
      1. Fine and Performing Arts  3 hours
      2. History  3 hours
      3. English Literature  3 hours
      4. Philosophy 3 hours
      5. Natural Science  12 hours plus Nutrition
      6. Social Science - 6 hours
    UPPER DIVISION
    1. Option A - any approved minor, (12-24 hours), second degree or second major.
    2. Option B - (9) credit hours from any approved cluster ( 3 hours  may be in major area of study).
  2. Dental Hygiene Major Requirements:
    1. Current Certificate in Basic Life Support (CPR and Obstructed Airway) prior to enrolling in any courses
    2. Required Courses:
      1. DNTH 412 Contemporary Roles for the Dental Hygienist
      2. DNTH 414 Educational Concepts for Health Professional I
      3. DNTH 415 Research Methods in Health Sciences
      4. DNTH 416 Administrative Leadership and Professional Development
  3. Successful completion of:
    1. Senior Assessment
