Curriculum for B.S. Completion Program
A minimum of 120 semester credit hours are required for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. Thirty credit hours must be completed in residency at Old Dominion University. A Certificate or Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene is prerequisite to admission.

UPPER DIVISION
- Option A - Any approved minor or second major, or approved certificate program.
- Option B - 6 hours from subject fields courses only.
- Successful completion of the School of Dental Hygiene Degree Requirements.
- Program Prerequisite: Current certification in Basic Life Supplort (CPR and Obstructed Airway) prior to enrolling in DNTH 412.
- Required Courses:
- DNTH 412 Perspectives in Dental Hygiene Practice. 3 or 5 credits.
- DNTH 414 Teaching Strategies for Health Professionals I. 3 credits.
- DNTH 415 Research Methods in the Health Sciences. 3 credits.
- DNTH 416 Current Issues in Dental Hygiene. 3 credits.
- Writing Proficiciency Test. All students must complete the University Assessment Test and pass the Writing Proficiency Test prior to graduation.
Other Requirements
The Gene W. Hirschfeld School of Dental Hygiene reserves the right to require remedial work of any student who does not perform at a level satisfactory for patient care. All students are responsible for maintaining current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification. The University maintains liability insurance on students while enrolled in the School. Students are strongly advised to obtain the hepatitis vaccine.
