Admission to B.S. Completion Program

Formal admission to Old Dominion University is an initial requirement for admission to the dental hygiene program. Applications may be obtained from the Old Dominion University, Office of Admissions web site: ODU Application

If you do not have access to the web and wish to obtain a university admission package, send your full name (indicate first, middle, last names), current mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, intended degree program, level of study (undergraduate or graduate) and the semester and year you wish to start to: admit@odu.edu.

A dental hygienist from another institution who desires to pursue degree completion level courses or seeks the Bachelor of Science degree must be a graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program and should apply as an upper level dental hygiene transfer student to Old Dominion University. Formal acceptance as a dental hygiene major will be determined by the Selection Committee of the School. See below for a listing of documents that must be submitted.

Required Documents

The following documents need to be submitted:
  1. Application and official transcripts from all colleges attended to Office of Admissions,
    Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA 23529-0050.
  2. Photocopy of passing score on the National Dental Hygiene Board Examination and all transcripts sent to the program coordinator.
  3. Recommendation letter from at least two of the following sent to the program coordinator:
    1. director or clinical supervisor of the dental hygiene program attended;
    2. current or most recent dental hygiene employer.

Application Deadlines

Students may begin in Fall, Spring or Summer sessions, completion dependent upon the individual student's previous college experience. At least one academic year is spent in the program to fulfill sequence courses. Students may elect to attend on a full-time or part-time basis.

Housing

The Housing Office has listings for on-campus and off-campus living. Because of the demand for on-campus housing, applications should be requested as soon as possible. Obtain information from the Housing Office, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA 23529-1850.
