Persons seeking admission to the Old Dominion University Dental Hygiene Program should follow these steps:

Application Deadline

Applicants must be accepted to Old Dominion University initially. Admission to the University does not constitute admission to the dental hygiene program.

Applicants should apply to the University in the fall preceding the year of intended admission to the dental hygiene program of study.

The Dental Hygiene Program application is due February 1st. Applicants accepted into the program will be notified by April 1st of their status. A $300 non-refundable place keeping fee is required at the time of acceptance.

Due to the specialty nature of the curriculum, dental hygiene courses are offered once per year. New classes are formed in August before the Fall semester begins.

Interested persons are encouraged to attend a Dental Hygiene Information Session which is scheduled monthly to learn about the program.

Time:  5:00 pm - 6:00 pm - No reservations are needed to attend the information sessions.

Other Requirements
As a health care professional/student, you are at an increased risk for contracting blood borne infectious diseases. The School of Dental Hygiene is not responsible for any medical cost associated with you contracting any communicable disease during your education and/or participation in Old Dominion University sponsored functions. If you contract a blood borne infectious disease during your enrollment appropriate health experts will be consulted about your ability to continue to treat patients.

The School reserves the right to require remedial work of any student who does not perform at a level satisfactory for patient care.

All students are responsible for maintaining current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Students are strongly advised to obtain the hepatitis vaccine.

The University maintains liability insurance on dental hygiene students while enrolled in the School.
