Emmanuel Rudatsikira
Professor, Chair

Professor Emmanuel Rudatsikira is Chair of the School of Community and Environmental Health at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. Rudatsikira is recognized in the field of global health, particularly for his work on the prevention and control of tobacco use and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. His other research interests include adolescent health, injury prevention and control as well as preparedness and emergency response.

Rudatsikira received his medical degree from Kinshasa University. After graduation, he worked in Bujumbura, Burundi, as a physician at Prince Regent Hospital and Director of Adventist Health Services. His post graduate education includes a master of public health in international health and a doctorate degree in public health epidemiology from Loma Linda University, California. He was faculty member and program director at Loma Linda University School of Public Health and San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health before joining Old Dominion in July 2010.

Rudatsikira has conducted research, evaluation or training in more than 30 countries in all the regions of the World Health Organization. He has published dozens of research articles in peer-referred journals. He is an Associate Editor for BioMed Central Journal of Public Health and Guest Editor of the Special Issue on Preparedness and Response in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. He is also an accreditation site visitor for the Council on Education for Public Health, Chair-Elect of the Public Health Faculty Forum in the Association of University Programs in Health Administration, and member of Healthy Norfolk Steering Committee.
