About the School

The School of Community and Environmental Health offers undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs which lead to careers in health services research, public health, community health, health care administration, environmental health, health education and long-term care administration. Additionally, the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (B.S.H.S.) and the Master of Science in Community Health offer students the opportunity to complete their degrees in a distance format.
With over 100 years of combined experience in a variety of health-related settings, the faculty brings to the classroom experience and practice combined with theory and research. Many faculty members have served on national and international review panels for organizations like the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institute of Health. Students have an opportunity to participate and work closely in on-going research being conducted by the faculty.
For over a quarter of a century the school has met the career and educational needs of individuals in Hampton Roads. Now the school is available to students throughout Virginia and selected other states through the medium of television and online courses via ODU's Teletechnet initiatives. Graduate study not only helps individuals meet the health care challenges of the 21st century, but also prepares students for leadership positions. Many of our students work in the health field and chose this program because of the flexibility it affords their work and family schedules.
